Hamas has stated that confessions by occupation soldiers that they have been given carte blanche to shoot as they please, set homes ablaze and leave corpses strewn across the landscape, constitute a formal and documented admission of systematic war crimes in the region, Quds News Network reported yesterday.
The group said this requires serious follow-up by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The movement emphasised that these “criminal practices, which turn unarmed civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, into targets for amusement, are a disgrace to humanity and to the international community, which remains incapable of activating mechanisms of deterrence and punishment against the fascist occupation government that has broken all restraints. Over nine months of aggression, it has violated all international laws and treaties in its comprehensive war of extermination against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”
A disturbing exposé published earlier this week shed light on the Israeli military’s conduct in Gaza, with six Israeli soldiers describing a near-total absence of rules in their conduct in Gaza. Troops, they said, are given carte blanche to shoot as they please, set homes ablaze and leave corpses strewn across the landscape, all with their commanders’ tacit or explicit approval.
