NEW YORK, September 20, 2024 (WAFA) – Ted Chaiban, the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, has called for an immediate ceasefire to protect children in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid access.

In a press statement, Chaiban highlighted the tragic loss of over 14,000 children in Gaza since the beginning of the ongoing Israeli onslaught on the enclave, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Chaiban emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with the number of displaced individuals rising to 1.9 million.

In a concerning trend, he said, the daily number of aid trucks has plummeted from 100 in August to just 15 in September, exacerbating the suffering of the civilian population.

Chaiban confirmed the urgent need for a political solution that guarantees the rights and protection of children in the region.
