London (Quds News Network)– The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has launched a trial bus route in north London aimed at “improving the safety of Jewish Londoners during their travels”.
The 310 bus now runs every 20 minutes between Stamford Hill in Hackney and Golders Green in Barnet, two neighborhoods with significant Jewish populations.
The introduction of the new route follows years of requests from the Jewish community for a direct bus service connecting these areas. According to the mayor’s office, the service is one of Mr. Khan’s re-election pledges. “For 16 years now the Jewish communities in Stamford Hill and Golders Green have been lobbying for a direct link between those two communities”, he said.
Speaking to BBC London, Sadiq Khan highlighted what he described as the rising concerns within the Jewish community about safety, noting a “massive increase of antisemitism” since October 7 of last year. He shared that many Jewish families expressed fear about traveling, particularly when transferring buses at Finsbury Park. “They were frightened about the abuse they had received,” Khan explained.

The Met Police recorded 2,065 “antisemitic hate crime” incidents between October and July. UK police forces, alongside public institutions, adhere to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. This definition includes actions such as believing that the existence of Israel is a racist endeavour and drawing comparisons between Israeli policies and those of the Nazis.
The United Kingdom was the first country to adopt the IHRA’s definition, setting a standard for public bodies to follow.
