Gaza (Quds News Network)- The Israeli military fired a missile at an aid convoy in Gaza, killing five workers. The Israeli army justified the attack claiming that it was led by Hamas fighters. The convoy, organized by the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera), was delivering essential medical supplies and fuel to the Emirati-run hospital in Rafah.

According to Anera’s Palestine Country Director, Sandra Rasheed, the route of the convoy was coordinated with the Israeli army. Rasheed expressed shock over the incident and highlighted that one Anera employee, who was part of the convoy, escaped unharmed. Anera is urgently seeking more details about the attack.

The Israeli army claimed that the lead vehicle of the convoy had been hijacked by resistance fighters.

UN Rapporteur rejects Israel military offensive in West Bank as ‘self-defence’, citing ICJ ruling

This incident is part of a broader context where humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza have increasingly come under attack by Israel. The United Nations has reported that Israel has killed more than 280 humanitarian workers since the genocide started in October. The killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in an Israeli airstrike in April is another notable incident, further highlighting Israel’s targeting of aid workers.

Humanitarian groups, including the World Food Program, have faced significant challenges in delivering aid due to the continues Israeli targeting. Last Tuesday, an Israeli attack on a World Food Program vehicle led to the temporary suspension of staff movement across Gaza.
