The resignation by senior officials in the Israeli army spokesperson’s team follows recent reports of deep-seated disputes between the government and the military over the management of the genocidal assault on Gaza as well as the day after the war.
High-ranking officials have resigned from the Israeli army spokesperson’s team due to the ongoing war in Gaza, according to Israeli media.
“The second-in-command in Daniel Hagari’s team, Moran Katz, along with many high-ranking officials have submitted their resignations in light of the Gaza conflict,” Israeli Channel 14 reported.
“The retiring officials also include Gen. Richard Heshit, the Israeli army’s spokesperson for foreign media affairs,” the report added.
The list of officials who have resigned also includes Lt. Col. Merav Granot Stoller and Lt. Col. Tzupia Moshkovich. The latter, according to the report, “was in command of the Shayetet 13 unit” prior to Hagari’s appointment.
The report indicates that Hagari was”appointed to the position of IDF spokesman without having previously served in any communication capacity in the unit” and that “his connections with former chiefs of staff who are identified with a certain political party raise some questions.” Indeed, according to Channel 14, Hagari served as assistant for both Gadi Eisenkot and Benny Gantz.
Israeli reports in recent months have highlighted deep-seated disputes between the government and the army regarding the government’s management of the assault on Gaza as well as its post-war strategy, the Anadolu news agency reported.
Over 30,500 Killed
Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 30,534 Palestinians have been killed, and 71,920 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.
Moreover, at least 7,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
Israel says that 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed on that day by ‘friendly fire.’
